| Hi Members, Well it wasn't like I didn't try but after having no responses DON'T SAY NOTHING IS EVER ORGANISED ON YOUR BEHALF since there is no point spending PFGA funds if no member is interested. Made sense to do it as a job lot but... The Contacts I WOULD HAVE MADE on your behalf for the AGM are as follows: Hi Sandra, I have some prices for you below,Fluorescent tube recycling: 1) Initial delivery of Boxes (1 off) $45 (up to 10 boxes) 2) Prepaid 4-50 tube boxes (hold 50 X 4 foot tubes) $80.00 (includes collection and changeover box delivery) 3) Prepaid 5-100 tube boxes (hold 100 X 5 foot tubes) $120.00 (includes collection and changeover box delivery) 4) Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) $4.50 per kg (Collection $45 if collected on its own) 5) Incandescent light bulbs (standard lights) $2.50 per kg (Collection $45 if collected on its own) 6) 4-50 box sale for housing of CFL’s and Incandescent bulbs $10.00 Battery Recycling: 1) Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) $6.25 per kg 2) Nickel Metal Hydride (Nmh) $6.25 per kg 3) Lithium Ion (LiIon) $6.25 per kg 4) Alkaline/Carbon Zinc (Household non-rechargeable) $6.25 per kg 5) Lithium Sulphur Dioxide $13.90 Collection of batteries $45 per pallet space. | Hi Members, I have just been informed that Grant Plattern, from the SA Branch of Anton's Mouldings, has had a a serious mishap that will take him off-line for a while. | I'M BACKKKKK! I have researched further into this recycle regime an didentified further opportunities: 1)Fluoro tubes- sent to Gilmore and then onto NSW to recycle Mercury, Glass and metal endcaps while dealing with nasty gases etc. 2)Batteries- lead, cadmium, lithium etc. can also be collected in 20 ltr drums and are processed off shore by a company I have sourced. As individuals a bit clumsy but makes sense in a guild/association sense. 3)Aerosol- are sent to Victoria to deal with all manner of gases and then recycle metal cans 4)Paints- both water based and solvent based that are treated to extract metals etc and what remains are used as fuel for the machines that do that job! This is all too complement the recycle bin your council provides that I hope you all use where you can. I am waiting for more info to be sent through as alot of this type of recycling is just being set up as the necessary machines and networks are only now becoming established. I hope to send all of this information to Neil Craven, the appointed PFGA Exectutive Officier, to distribute to other state PFGA brethren. | Hi again, HOW DO WE DISPOSE of FLUORO TUBES? Zero waste NO LONGER do the pick up service at least not for businesses. I have contacted SITA in regards to Fluoro tube disposal and have devised a cunning plan: The PFGA can pay for 1 or more of the Containers that holds 100 tubes at $150 = $1.5 a tube and take to the AGM on 31/08/09. Yes being responsible does cost money but if a group contribute then...since how many of us individually could fill a container? Members can contribute their tubes in the carpark, then I can ring them on the morrow to pick up. Reasons to be concerned ? Said tubes each contain mercury enough to pollute 30 000 lt of water etc. (http://www.sita.com.au/media/20491/fluoro_2pp%20a.pdf) Alot of the components can actually be recycled. Please let me know if you are interested and how many tubes you have so appropriate measures can be taken as a group of environmentally concerned/irritated framers. I alone have at lease 30 of the darn things and I REFUSE to contribute any further to the general pollution that we have been aware of for some time. LET THE PFGA MAKE A DIFFERENCE however small.  I figure if people come to the AGM it is a hassle-free way to provide this service. I will email the general membership if we pass next executive meeting BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW! This is a list of some everyday items: 1) CONTAINERS-soft drink & juice bottles, shampoo, milk and cream dispensers, detergent bottles as well as cardboard, aluminium and steel cans, aerosol cans and glass all go in your recycling bin. 2) MOBILE PHONES-can be dropped off at any mobile phone retailer(Telstra, Optus, Vodaphone, Virgin) or call CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA 1800 282 3290 3)PRINTER CARTRIDGES-Leave at PLANET ARK bins at the Austfralia Post, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, thingy Smith or Tandy Stores 4)Household Chemicals-paints, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, engine oil and gas bottles can all be dropped off at the ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTON AUTHORITY'S HARZARDOUS HOUSEHOLD WASTE Depots. Call 8204 2004 for info. 5)COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMPS/ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHT GLOBES-Zero Waste SA offers a mobile collection service. Call 8204 1961. | Dear Members, During the past 12 months the PFGA Inc. has grown in membership and is presently undergoing significant changes and development. In a reponse to the Guild's growth there is increased attention required in the management of the day to day activities. Further to this the National Executive Committee see the need for a central adminstrative body to orchestrate : a) the required enhancement of member's benefits b) the public access to the benefits of Guild Members in regards to their framing requirements c) Australian suppliers promoting there products in relation to our 5 framing standards These are issues that will be discussed at the Annual General Meeting Monday, 29th June. It will be an important opportunity for members to be present and ask any questions regarding this process not to mention to avail themselves of the new positons that will enable wider participation in this National Incoporated body. | Dear Framers, I have another contact . Electronic Waste Recycling dealing with an area that is often not disposed of ethically and responsibly which includes outdated computers and associated consumables, Televisions, video machines that often go straight to landfill. They are full of valuable and materials and resources that can be deconstructed and reused as well as dangerous heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium that may be released into our scant waterways and environment. This process of deconstructing this equipment is expensive but vital to keep hazardous and toxic wastes out of our future world so a small fee is attached. Some Councils co-operate as being drop-off points to work in with such worthy companies facilitating this process. | Well Everyone , We are are nearing the end of the first decade of the New Millennium. The International Community is facing tough economical and political times as all generations have endured and survived. The Environmental issue is no doubt "the elephant in the room' as we enter the second decade and will need our attention as picture framers, if it has not already achieved that status. The Guild hopes that your Christmas trade has kept ticking over. There is always exciting things on the menu for a New Year and we will be there soon enough!
